Ladies – this one is for you. Every year, women all over the world get together to brew on International Women’s Day. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the history of brewsters, as well as learn a bit about brewing.
Here’s the plan:
In both Cape Town and Joburg, there are brew days set up. Women (and men) from all over will come and join the fun, but only the ladies will brew (and/or pour). Megan Gemmel from Clockwork Brewhouse in KZN has put together a recipe for an African Queen Blond Ale that we will brew but there is a whole lot more to look forward to.
What’s happening in Jozi:
There will be at least 2 demo brews done my myself and Michelle from Drahthaar Brewery. We will have beer on tap in exchange for donations; all brewed by ladies. There will also be food and t-shirts on sale. All proceeds go to charity. So bring cash 🙂
It’s a great opportunity to come and see different brewing methods in action; as well as to learn about it. Just in case you decide it’s something you want to get into, BrewCraft is a brewing shop and can help with anything from kits to full brewing systems.
Guys are more than welcome too!
What’s happening in Cape Town:
Similar to Joburg, the ladies will be brewing the African Queen Blond Ale upstairs at Afro Caribbean Brewing Company.
The event will see more women (and men) involved in all domains of the South African brewing industry come together for a full day of learning, networking and socializing. They will put a brew through, have talks and discussions, beer tasting and loads of fun. All proceedings from the event and from the beer sales will be donated to Nonceba Family Councelling in Khayelitsha.
So ladies and gents, get your friends and come show some love for all the awesome ladies in beer.
