Today’s beer is fabulous for a chilled Saturday afternoon braai. It’s the first ale to come out of the Striped Horse stable (see what I did there) and it’s super easy going.
Name: Pale Ale
Brewery: Striped Horse
Country: Cape Town, South Africa
Style: Pale Ale
Rating 4 / 5
I was really excited to taste this beer when I saw it at Capital Craft this year. It’s their first ale (and hopefully not their last). This kind of beer shows that experimenting and perfecting your recipes before release pays.
It pours clear gold, with great carbonation. The head is abundant and sticks around. I enjoyed the hop aroma – so much of tasting beer lies in the aroma and this one doesn’t disappoint. The beer is really well balanced. There is definite bitterness and it ends of crisp. It’s really moreish. The real problem is that the bottle is so damn small!
I found mine at a Blue Bottle liquor in my area, but these guys aren’t hard to come by. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!
