On Tap: the beer mag we’ve all been waiting for!

The very first issue of South Africa’s first beer magazine has been published! This mag, On Tap is dedicated solely to beer and brewing, and has been available for a little over a fortnight. This event marks a real change in the beer industry in the country, and I am over the moon. The industry has come far enough now to warrant better reviews, more education and (hopefully) better beer. On Tap will surely facilitate not only the individual thoughts of bloggers (like me), but surface professional tips, information and guides for those wanting to brew, at home or commercially.

The magazine has a fairly broad focus from education on beer styles to cooking with beer. In the first issue I really enjoyed the opinion pieces by Ivor from Kleurlingbierman and Troye from #beertime. The best quote so far was “Don’t drink beer just because it’s craft, drink it because it’s good!“. Couldn’t agree more.

I learnt about Steam beers (literally, thank goodness for that article because I really struggle to understand the {appeal of the} style) as well as why we should care about the BJCP guidelines. There are a load of good newsy tidbits as well as an event calendar. Great job all round. A massive shout out has to go to Lucy Corne, the editor and all round awesome beer lover. Well done on a great first issue!

If you haven’t already, go pick up a copy – or better yet, subscribe. It’s only R160 for a year’s supply of the best beer writing and news around. Totally worth it. You can find your copy at home brew stores, tap rooms and good liquor stores.

I’ve got an article in there too (#proud). I wrote about Label Design and how it can help or hinder your brewery’s brand. If you’ve read it, let me know your thoughts!

Shameless self punt pics below :-p
