Rating: 4 / 5
I do believe that this is the final beer in the Boston range for me to try. I have now had them all! Whoop! And the only one I really didn’t like was the Naked Mexican. Bleh.
But this lager is pretty awesome. This may sound like an insult, but one-for-one this lager is the best replacement to Castle Lite that I’ve found.
It’s not a popular topic amongst craft beer geeks, but normally people have their “staple” beer and generally it is a commercial beer. This is probably because solely drinking craft is expensive. So either you choose quality or quantity. But most people that I know choose a blend. So they have a specific affordable beer for quantity and then splurge on the craft brews as regularly as they can. For me, the staple has been Castle Lite or Windhoek Draft. But mostly Castle Lite.
So when I tried this lager, I was well impressed. It was similar to (but better than) Castle Lite. It has a similar mild grainy aroma, and some bready notes on first sip. It ends off crisp. There is a little more malt character to this lager which I like. But it’s a really good everyday beer. The pricing isn’t too bad either, but doesn’t exactly lend itself to quantity yet. Depending on where you go, you can get it for around R32.00.
Have you tried this beer? What did you think?
