I’ve written before about how much I appreciate a good dark beer – whether it be a dark lager, porter, bock or stout. Its’ all about that malt. This porter really surprised me with the quality.
I know that sounds terrible, but De Garve are a microbrewery out in Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal triangle, and while there are a couple of breweries out that way, you don’t necessarily expect the most from them.
Well I was proven wrong, this porter is rad. It’s got a really sweet toasty malt nose, and the flavour is a great balance between coffee bitterness and malted biscuit. The colour is just about black, with a moderate creamy head. It’s really a lovely porter with a really cute name (their other beers also have fantastic names – go check them out).
