Name: Old Raj
Brewery: Fraser’s Folly
Country: South Africa
Rating: 3.75/ 5
I’ve seen this beer rated as “fascinating” – that should tell you a little something about the Old Raj. Fraser, the brewer named this IPA the Old Raj because of the history of IPA; the English needed their beer to keep for longer, so they added more hops. Voila! The India Pale Ale was born.
The beer itself is a slightly hazy copper colour, with a moderate white head. The aroma is almost spicy, with some hop profile straight away. It is fuller bodied with some malt notes, but has a completely unique, almost herbal hoppiness to it. It’s well crafted and a totally unique IPA.
